istanbul-agop-custom-sultan-splash-8-222673
8" SULTAN SPLASH

Historical Context and Positioning Within the Range

This 20-inch Crash Ride was born from a collaboration between Istanbul Agop and Aaron Sterling, a renowned studio drummer (notably alongside John Mayer, Taylor Swift, and Harry Styles). The positioning is clear: to offer a signature cymbal dedicated to musicality, capable of naturally fitting into a mix while remaining inspiring for live playing on a controlled volume stage. It follows the logic of a highly versatile cymbal where every nuance matters and versatility remains elegant, never generic.

Who This Drum/Instrument Is For

The Istanbul Agop Aaron Sterling Signature 20-inch Crash Ride is primarily aimed at intermediate to expert drummers seeking a cymbal with character, capable of covering multiple roles without musical compromise. It is particularly suited for contexts where the cymbal needs to "speak" without overpowering: studio sessions, modern pop, alternative rock, indie, soul, RnB, gospel, funk, folk, and all music styles where dynamics and texture are paramount. It also remains relevant for modern jazz and hybrid setups whenever a crashable, responsive, and clear ride is desired.

Features and Innovations

Designed as a Crash Ride, this cymbal aims for a precise compromise: achieving a crash response that is immediate enough to punctuate, open a chorus, or embellish a verse, while maintaining a clear and usable ride articulation for everyday playing. In practice, this translates into a cymbal designed to offer substance under the stick, a wide palette of nuances, and a reaction that encourages subtle playing: accents, crescendos, ghost strokes on the ride, and variations in stick placement (shoulder, bell, edge) to multiply tonal colors. The expected result is a "recording-ready" cymbal that favors musicality and coherence over spectacular effects.

Sound

The announced sonic character is warm and natural, with an elegance that emphasizes texture and fluidity. When crashed, it offers a smooth and musical opening, capable of remaining controlled and avoiding excessive harshness, making it particularly interesting at moderate volume and close-miking situations. When ridden, the goal is to maintain sufficient definition to articulate tempo, while retaining some softness and warmth in the sustain.

This sound philosophy suits drummers who like to shape the sound with their right hand: nuanced ride strokes on the bow for a warm carpet, more defined passages when needed, then crashing on the edge for broad yet refined accents. The overall design is intended to sit naturally in the mix, leaving space for vocals and harmonic instruments, while providing an identifiable tonal signature.

Technical specifications

Brand

Istanbul Agop

Series / Model

Aaron Sterling Signature

Type

Crash Ride

Diameter

20 inches

Recommended context

studio, acoustic stage

Orientation

sonic elegance, musical flexibility

Drummer profile

seeking finesse, control, and musicality

Balance

compromise between crash response and ride clarity

Tonal color

warm and natural

Overall rendering

musical, nuanced, designed to integrate easily into mixes and acoustic settings

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0984/0872/6803/files/8e6147cc40b6ce55ebffd0c09ef57557b271bbc7_ISTANBUL_2622056I08013.jpg?v=1787345262
