The AEA KU5A supercardioid breaks new ground in ribbon technology with its highly focused steering that rejects the shock of other instruments, room reflections and noisy ambience in the studio and on stage. The KU5A features active electronics, suitable for any preamp in the studio and on the road, as well as a built-in high-pass filter to cut bass in short-throw recording applications.
Never before has a ribbon mic provided so much clarity and breadth of sound in a package equally suited to studio and live use. As a near-field ribbon designed for close-range recording, the KU5A delivers the low-end weight and pronounced mids expected of AEA ribbons with a moderate, manageable near-field effect. Singers can sing directly into the KU5A's grille, as its interior components are the most protected in the AEA line.
The KU5A's supercardioid polar pattern captures pure, direct sound while rejecting room sound behind the mic. This feature prevents excessive disturbance to the monitor and audience when tracking live musicians in a room or on stage. Traditional figure-8 ribbons, which distinctly integrate both direct and room sound, rely on sharp zeros to reject unwanted effects.
