Production and Performance: A Smooth Environment Designed for Speed

Bitwig Studio combines arranger, clip launcher, and mixer in a coherent approach, with fast switching between projects and clip-based composition (with take color coding). Hybrid tracks facilitate switching between audio, MIDI, and modulation, while clip automation and the Dynamic Inspector speed up adjustments throughout the creative process.

Modulation and Editing: Musical Control, Movement, and Precision

To create expressive movements, Bitwig offers 5 MSEG (multi-segment envelopes) with custom shape creation and exchange: ideal for making a synth breathe, animating a pad, transforming a rhythm, or automating an effect organically. Operators open extended playback options and clip/event modifications, and Expression Spread adds random variations to playback parameters to humanize grooves and textures.

Modular Sound Design: The Grid, Poly Grid, and FX Grid

With The Grid, Bitwig becomes a true modular playground: 186 modules to build instruments, generators, effects, and modulation tools. For sampling, Slice to Multisample and Slice To Drum Machine simplify quick mapping of user samples, useful for turning a take into a playable kit or creating a custom instrument from your sounds.

Studio Integration: Plug-ins, Control, Sync, and Hardware

Bitwig supports an unlimited number of audio/MIDI/effect tracks and VST and CLAP plug-ins with sidechain support, and secures sessions via Sandbox mode. The software also handles native MPE, numerous MIDI controllers, an Open Controller API for creating your own scripts, as well as flexible sync options (Ableton Link, MIDI clock, MIDI timecode, and analog clock signals). With a suitable audio-MIDI interface, Bitwig can output analog clock and control voltage signals, and integrate hardware instruments/effects controlled via MIDI.
