A Nocturnal "June LTD": Boutique Ambient, Collector's Edition
The Nocturnal was born from a collaboration with Noli: originally a custom order, it became a full-fledged pedal within the Collision Devices universe. The June LTD version pushes the artistic identity of the Nocturnal even further, featuring a "June" reinterpreted by Le Cheveu Blanc and including a poster. The concept remains the same: journey through Dusk, Night, and Dawn as three chapters of the same voyage, from tape-inspired delay to shimmering halos, without losing control live.
Who Is the Nocturnal June LTD For?
If you're looking for a guitar effects pedal oriented towards soundscapes, post-rock, shoegaze, ambient, indie, film music, or simply modern layers that fill the space, the Nocturnal is an obvious candidate. Its "three effects, one story" approach appeals equally to guitarists, keyboardists, and texture creators.
It suits intermediate to advanced musicians who enjoy sculpting their sound: the Nocturnal can be simple (a light shimmer behind a clean tone) or radical (self-oscillation, lo-fi repeats, tremolo movements that run wild). In the studio, it's an immediate source of inspiration; on a stage pedalboard, it advantageously replaces a delay/reverb/modulation trio when you want to travel light while keeping a true sonic signature.
Controls and Functions: Three Sections, Three Personalities (Dusk / Night / Dawn)
DUSK (Modulated Delay) : an inspiring delay with a "tape" character, featuring modulation that can range from subtle warble to more pronounced movement. The Mix knob switches between Full Dry and a 50% Dry / 50% Wet blend. Time sets the delay time between repeats (from a few milliseconds up to 1 second): the longer the repeats, the more lo-fi the texture becomes. Feedback controls the number of repeats, and the pedal can easily self-oscillate (around a setting near 7.5). Modulation adjusts the amount of modulation, while Speed controls its rate (from 0.1 to 20 Hz). Bonus: a long press temporarily triggers feedback self-oscillation : perfect for a build-up, transition, or song ending.
NIGHT (Dynamic Tremolo) : here, the tremolo doesn't just pulse at a fixed speed. It reacts to your playing and can speed up depending on your attack and energy, especially if fed with a big shimmer reverb. Sensibility adjusts attack sensitivity (the further right you turn, the more immediate the response), and Depth sets the tremolo intensity. A long press temporarily increases the tremolo speed: ideal for making a pad "take off" without changing your settings.
DAWN (Shimmer) : the "sunrise" section creates bright, dense, and very musical soundscapes. Blend controls the dry/wet mix and allows for full wet reverb. Reverb sets the decay time (up to 15 seconds ). Shimmer adds the typical brightness and harmonic lift, while Filter (digital low-pass) darkens or brightens the high end. Finally, Colour is an active analog notch filter centered around 2.2 kHz : this control adjusts the Q, useful for scooping, smoothing, or emphasizing a specific area in the mix. The Trails function is activated by a long press on the footswitch: the reverb continues to float while you play clean on top, a powerful reflex in ambient and post-rock.
The Sound
The Nocturnal June LTD isn't just a sum of three effects: it's a pedal that "breathes." The modulated delay offers warmth and controlled instability like tape, and can intentionally degrade into lo-fi texture when pushing the delay time. The shimmer reverb is wide, bright, with enough control to shift from a very bright starry sky to a darker, cinematic atmosphere thanks to Filter and Colour. The dynamic tremolo adds organic movement: it feels like the modulation follows your intention rather than a fixed LFO.
The real charm appears when stacking the sections: floating repeats, stretching pads, accelerating pulses... and those momentary functions that turn an ambient pedal into a performance instrument. On a clean amp, it creates vast panoramas; with a light crunch, it adds an almost "soundtrack" depth. And if you like flirting with chaos, self-oscillation becomes a color in its own right, usable as a transition effect or a controlled noise texture.

Questions frequently asked
Can the Collision Devices Nocturnal June LTD create ambient and shoegaze pads?
The Dusk, Night, and Dawn sections combine a modulated delay, dynamic tremolo, and shimmer reverb to build ambient, post-rock, or shoegaze textures. The three effects can be used separately or together.
What power supply is needed for this pedal?
A 9 V DC negative center power supply is required, with a minimum capacity of 400 mA. Mains operation is specified.
Can the delay go into self-oscillation?
The Dusk section easily enters self-oscillation around a Feedback setting near 7.5. A long press temporarily triggers this self-oscillation, useful for creating a swell or transition. The delay time ranges from a few milliseconds up to 1 second.
How does the Night dynamic tremolo work?
Attack sensitivity is adjusted with Sensibility, while Depth controls the tremolo intensity. The speed can increase according to playing energy, especially with substantial shimmer reverb.
What are the connectors and pedalboard footprint?
Input and output are 6.35 mm mono jack connectors, with an input impedance of 1 MΩ and an output impedance of 10 kΩ. The enclosure measures 186 x 119 x 56 mm and weighs 250 g.
