A Classic Born in the High-Gain Era

Created when intensive playing became standard and high-gain amps along with rack systems became the norm, the PAF Pro was designed to combine the best of both worlds: the clarity and openness of a PAF with increased presence to avoid getting lost in a heavy effects chain. Released in 1985, it quickly established itself as a reference for guitarists seeking consistent definition even under "heavy" processing.

For Which Guitars and Styles?

The DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro is a neck pickup that performs remarkably well on most guitars, perfect for smooth leads, precise arpeggios, and rhythm parts that need to stay articulate. In the bridge position, it excels when extremely high output is not required: ideal for rock, hard rock, fusion, or prog sounds where dynamics and clarity take precedence over heavy compression.

A Response Designed to Cut Through the Mix

Its transparency helps the signal stay clean amid distortions, modulations, and delays, where darker pickups can quickly become muddy. The bass retains body without flabbiness, the mids provide a subtle vocal signature, and the highs are tuned to stand out with precision without harshness. Thanks to its 4-conductor wiring, you can also consider versatile configurations (split, series/parallel) depending on your electronics.
