Roland VAD716-GE VAD Drum Kit

Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

For over two decades, V-Drums have set the standards for electronic drum kits. The V-Drums 7 series introduces a new generation of sounds and detection, and the VAD716 brings these advancements into the V-Drums Acoustic Design family with an acoustic look. This model sits at the top of the VAD range, designed for demanding drummers seeking traditional aesthetics and studio-level performance.

Who This Drum Kit Is For

Ideal for intermediate to professional drummers in home studios, tours, and places of worship, the VAD716 excels in rock and pop as well as funk, jazz, or metal. The low-volume mesh heads favor home practice, while the 6-piece configuration offers an extended palette for arrangement and improvisation.

Features and Innovations

The V71 module delivers highly detailed multi-sampled audio and an expressive engine, with a large 4.3-inch color screen for smooth navigation. Wi-Fi connection to Roland Cloud unlocks expansion packs and access to DW Soundworks via a trial subscription. The digital snare PD-14DSX gains precision (improved detection, timbre sensor, tension adjustment knob), while the bass drum KD-22 offers the feel of a real wooden shell thanks to its sensor integrated into the head. The dedicated computer editor speeds up kit creation, organization, and deep editing.

Sound

The V71 sound libraries, developed with DW, reproduce the dynamics, transparency, and projection of high-end acoustic drum sets. The digital pads faithfully translate nuances: center hits, rimshots, and natural cross-sticks on the PD-14DSX, continuous open/close and playing details on the VH-14D, tip and shoulder articulation, bow/edge, and instant muting on the CY-18DR.
The double-layer mesh heads provide a controlled rebound and an ideal contact time for fine control of ghost notes and accents. The two thinner CY-16R-T crashes enhance flexibility and expressiveness, delivering a modern and musical sound.
