Yamaha 6CM - CUSTOM (SOPRANO SAXOPHONE)

The Yamaha Custom Series: Big Stage Experience at the Service of Your Playing

With the Yamaha Custom mouthpieces, the Japanese brand leverages years of collaboration with leading musicians. By studying their embouchures and expectations (sound, response, tuning, comfort), Yamaha has refined a series recognized for its manufacturing consistency and its ability to deliver a warm timbre without sacrificing precision. Every step, from the initial shaping to finishing, is overseen by experienced craftsmen to ensure superior and consistent quality from one piece to another.

For Which Saxophonist? Styles, Level, and Musical Intentions

This Yamaha Custom mouthpiece is primarily aimed at experienced players seeking a reliable and demanding mouthpiece capable of supporting refined work on attack, legato, and dynamics. Its design is particularly suited for saxophonists who want a centered and controlled sound, equally comfortable in classical (intonation, purity, homogeneity) as in jazz or pop (colors, projection, nuances). It also represents an interesting option in wind orchestra or ensemble settings, where intonation stability and clarity of musical expression are priorities.

Sound and Design

Carved from high-quality ebonite (hard rubber), this mouthpiece stands out for its deep resonance and comfortable feel in the mouth. Ebonite generally provides a sensation of flexibility and warmth in the tone, which the Custom series highlights with a warm and rich sound, while maintaining remarkable purity. The intonation is noted as particularly clear, helping to stabilize notes throughout the range and keep a clean tonal center, even when working on subtle dynamics.

With its powerful volume and rich tonal variations, this mouthpiece promotes solid projection without becoming aggressive, provided it is paired with a reed suited to your approach. The playing feel is designed for comfort: the response remains fluid and allows exploration of a wide range of colors, from round and velvety sounds to more assertive nuances, depending on your air column and reed choice.
